This is our first eat-with-a-local-host event, and we are truly impressed with Florence! From the moment she greets up and installs us in the tidy living area of her apartment, "aperitif" in hand, she puts us all at ease with information and anecdotes on the Paris cultural and food scenes, and on neighborhood shops (Paris 14th). It helps that we are 3, and that Florence can be with us during dinner at her 4-person table, so we get to discuss some more about Paris, food, traveling, etc. Appetizer is artichoke spread on toasted baguette slice, first course is chicken-and-small-vegetable terrine, and main course is haddock wrapped in coppa, perfectly paired with fennel and new potatoes. This is followed by goat cheese, then white-chocolate-rhubarb-and-strawberry verrine. Throughout the meal, Florence freely shares with us the provenance of her ingredients (bread from the neighborhood award-winning bakery, vegetable from the organic stand down the street, fish and cheese from the shops nearby), all of which prepared with care by our host! Whether you have been in Paris for a few years, or just in town for a quick visit, if you are looking for an honest meal in comfortable non-smoking surroundings, you can't go wrong with Florence. And the lively conversation is a real bonus!

This was a beautiful evening with excellent food and vivid conversation. We enjoyed very much Florence's market-based dishes, the beautifully fresh and imaginative appetizer made from zucchini, tomatoes, chèvre, and pesto. And the poulet basque, and the Rosé d'Anjou, and, and, and... We hope to see Florence in the near future at our place.

My sister and I had a delightful evening with Florence and two other Parisienne guests. We discussed topics ranging from culture and politics to food. Florence's English was excellent, the other two guests practiced their English and we practiced our French. Florence used a map to show where the wine and food she had chosen for the classic french meal had come from, which was really helpful. We dined on a tasty starter of white bean and garlic on baquette, delicious red onion tarte with fresh parmesan, mouth watering white fish with a special beurre blanc on a bed of fennel, french cheeses and a mango coconut dessert. Florence also provided excellent advice for places to eat in Paris as well as her favorite chocolat noir shops! This evening exceeded our expectations. Should we travel to other cookening locations we would sign up for another meal.

I was in Paris for two weeks and the most delightful night by far was the one we spent with Florence. It was also the best meal I had. Florence was an absolutely delightful host and a fabulous cook. The evening was spent with great conversation, great food and great wine. We parted as friends, promising to visit each other again in our respective countries. I speak virtually no French, but Florence's English is absolutely fluent. Her charming daughter happened to be there that night, which just added to the fun and conversation. I am so happy that we I found Cookening and signed up for this. I just cannot recommend this experience highly enough. To have a real French dinner in a real French apartment (clean and comfortable) with a Parisian family...it was just the best. Thank you!!
