Uzbekistan is famous for its hospitality and good food and I would like to invite dear guests to my home to share exotic Caucasian and Central Asian dinner. Most of the dishes are my family recipes that I learned from my mom and my grandma, others I learned from friends and some I created myself. But all are freshly cooked with Love, as a good home meal should be!

    I surprised David to a beautiful dinner with Damira and Sahib. They are such beautiful people and such lovely hosts!
    As soon as we got to their house, they greeted us with such affection and ushered us to the dining table that was laden with platters of food. We were overwhelmed with the variety that was presented to us and had a tough time deciding what to eat first!!
    As we talked, Damira would keep pouring us tea and would gently remind us to help ourselves to seconds as we emptied our plates.
    The affection they share for each other is such a lovely sight and is something to learn from. They introduced us to their beautiful culture and treated us to pictures of their beautiful family and so many many stories. The conversation was soon moved to the kitchen, where we chopped vegetables in preparation for the main course of the day - Pilaf!! As Sahib busied himself with the stove, David and I got about having a bit of a competition with who was better at chopping. well, Damira did not hesitate to point out the rightful winner - it wasn't me! As the evening progressed, we had the opportunity to meet their oldest son. He was all smiles as he helped prepare the main course and helped lay the table. As he joined us at the table, he showed us a video of life back in Uzbekistan. just as we thought there were no more surprises, they walked in with more!!
    It was an enriching experience all in all and anything I say will not do them enough justice and will be too little to describe it. You must go visit them! I insist! Treat yourselves to their amazing hospitality and extraordinary food. We had such a lovely time and we'll definitely go back for more!

    My partner and I celebrated his birthday with Damira and Sahib in August. It was our first time trying anything like this and we could not be happier with the result! From the moment we began talking to Damira about setting up a dinner, I knew we were in good hands. Damira and Sahib were so gracious in understanding when we had a predicament and couldn't make it on the date originally agreed upon.

    When we did make it to their house a week later they treated us with such kindness and hospitality. They treated us to stories of life and history in Uzbekistan (from a university professor of Central Asian Studies no less!). Both are so intelligent have wonderfully deep and informed opinions on everything from global politics to local Brooklyn customs.

    The food was literally inexplicably incredible! We had nearly 10 appetizers, each uniquely different and uncommon, after which you'll already feel full... but there's more. So much more! We next got to help Damira and Sahib prepare the national dish, Plov. While we chopped vegetables we got to learn about the preparation of the meal and its cultural importance in the household of all Uzbek houses.

    I don't want to ruin the surprise of what Damira and Sahib will treat you to so I'll only say that throughout the rest of the meal we had the chance to see photos, hear stories, and have our fortunes read. By the end, we literally could not eat another bite but, of course, we got to take home as much as we wanted so we could share their delicious food with our families the next day (Just kidding. We hogged it all for ourselves!).

    You absolutely MUST take this opportunity to meet and share food with these two incredibly warm and intelligent people. You'll not only have a new found respect for cuisine, but you'll have a new found love of meeting strangers.
